Matthew Frost

Matthew Frost

Cornet

Matthew started to learn the cornet at the age of 7, and promptly joined Norwich Citadel Young Peoples Band. In these formative years with the support of family and members of the corps, Matthew found a passion for music making which saw him go to study trumpet with a scholarship at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire in 2013. Earlier that year Matthew was also principal cornet of the Territorial Youth Band, a course which over the years had a profound influence on Matthews interest in Salvation Army music making.

Following his graduation in 2017 Matthew has pursued a freelance career as a trumpet player and peripatetic teacher. One of the more unique aspects of this career is Matthew's specialism on the natural trumpet which has seen him play with many top baroque orchestras and ensembles around the UK, including learning the keyed bugle for a recording with The Prince Regents Band in 2021.

Matthew is currently principal cornet of Birmingham Citadel Band and also assistant YP band leader at the corps. It was in the summer of 2021 that Matthew joined the Solo Cornet section of the International Staff Band. Another aspect of Matthew's musical ministry within the Salvation Army is the creation and subsequent hosting of the ‘Fully Scored’ podcast in conjunction with the Music Editorial Department.
