Jonathan Evans
Trombone
Jonathan has been the Principal Trombone of the International Staff Band since 2022, when he succeeded legendary trombonist Andrew Justice. He is a product of both the Territorial Youth Band and Territorial Music School and has served in the ISB on first trombone since January 2014.
The son of officer parents, he grew up predominantly in Wrexham where he was taught to play at the corps, until moving away to study Music. Jonathan's formal music study gained him a MusB (Hons) academic music degree from the University of Manchester, specialising in orchestral conducting and the music of Shostakovich. This led him to gaining a place on the Masters conducting course at the Royal Northern College of Music.
On completion of his studies, Jonathan qualified as a teacher. Currently he is the Head of Key Stage Two at a large inner city school in Manchester, having previously worked as the music lead.
Jonathan is a member of the Sale Corps where since 2020 he has been the Bandmaster, having earlier served as Deputy Bandmaster and Divisional Youth Band Leader. He worships at the corps with his wife, Ellie, and their daughter.
