Alan Williams

Alan Williams

Solo Cornet

Alan joined the Solo Cornet section of the International Staff Band in September 2022.

Having learned his first notes on a Cornet, aged 7, at Springburn Citadel Corps, Glasgow, ongoing brass and music tuition (both through the corps and school system) largely took place in Norwich while his Salvation Army Officer parents were appointed to Norwich Mile Cross Corps. Formal music education gained Alan a First Class Bachelor of the Arts (Hons) Music degree from the Colchester Institute of Music and Performing Arts, where he studied trumpet, music composition, and singing.

After freelancing for a short time, Alan changed career and worked in the Pensions Industry for several years, before returning to a full-time music role in 2016, working for the Salvation Army as an Editor in the UK territory’s Music Editorial team.

As well as his commitment to the International Staff Band, Alan gives his time composing music, regularly contributing to both The Salvation Army’s brass and vocal journals. Now living in London, Alan attends the Bromley Corps, where he is the Young People’s Band Leader and a keen bandsman and songster.
